More on the migration process

A migration is recommended if your prestashop version is older than 1.6 as you cannot use the one click update process, migrations are complex but with the right steps its works well and can offer a vastly updated modern theme and latest software.

The steps we follow are:

  1. Fresh install of the latest Prestashop software onto a test environment
  2. Update Prestashop settings to reflect those in old shop. (i.e. general settings and shipping / customer groups etc.)
  3. Migrate all data from old website to new installation (i.e. orders / customers / products etc.)
  4. Set up of a customised theme based on old theme and customisation to reflect branding.
  5. Set up required modules.
  6. Development and new coding for any functionality that is non prestashop standard. Any customised code (that is not PrestaShop standard) as this would need to be re-created on the new Prestashop
  7. Testing and verify the site performs well
  8. Migrate any new orders/customers that were missed in the initial migration
  9. Set live once further testing has been passed successfully.
